Big Canoe Animal Rescue

BCARLogo.jpg

Our mission is to be a no kill shelter for homeless dogs and cats found in the Big Canoe community, providing them with a safe, healthy and positive environment until they are adopted into their forever loving new home. We will evaluate each animal we take in, improve their health and physical appearance, socialization skills and provide suitable forums for their adoption. We will also offer outreach support and educate the general public as to humane animal care.

Volunteer Activities

Dog Shelter:

Kennel Care: feeding and giving the dogs fresh water, medicine, cleaning the runs and troughs, and cleaning the yards. This is an ongoing commitment and requires training.

Field Training: Field Training takes place Monday through Friday 10:15-11:30; Sunday 2:15-3:30. The dogs and volunteers go as a group on a long walk or are taken to the Diamond Dog Park to play and chase balls.

At times there is also a need to foster a dog or to take them to training classes.

Maggie’s House Cat Shelter

Feline Care: Volunteers feed the cats and kittens, scoop and clean litter boxes, sweep the shelter rooms and brush/vacuum cat trees, perches, and cat beds. Most importantly they spend time interacting and playing with the cats and kittens to help them learn to trust humans so they can be adopted into forever, loving homes.

Fostering: Volunteers can foster kittens and cats, giving then a temporary shelter until a permanent placement is found.

Volunteers may be asked to provide transportation to and from veterinary appointments.

Time Commitment: Flexible

Frequency of need: Flexible

Level of Physical Activity: Light physical duties

Level of face to face interaction: Minimal face-to-face interaction
